Silver Spring Fire Department

Life Safety Unit

As part of its recently developed strategic plan, the SSFD has started a Life Safety Unit to increase the injury prevention focus of service to the Silver Spring community and Montgomery County. To maintain and enhance its operations and presence as a local fire rescue department, SSFD will connect and actively engage with the Silver Spring community in engagements other than the 911 call. The Department will be the first in Maryland to recruit volunteers to serve as Life Safety Technicians.

The Unit offers a variety of courses on health and safety issues and provides public outreach and a speakers bureau.  Home Safety Checkups including smoke alarm installation for Older Adults are scheduled to begin in late Fall 2012.
